The famous Portuguese neuroscientist António Damásio wrote “we are feelings machines, which sometimes think” and I see it every day in my clinical practice.
I believe that we exist in relationships: with ourselves, with others and with the world around us; and it is the disconnection with one or more of these relationships that brings immense human suffering. The therapeutic relationship is one of the keys for this reconnection in a more sustained, empowering and healthy way.
I offer effectiveness by using various psychotherapeutic modalities which are evidence based therapies. I then combine it with 18 years of clinical practice experience both in Portugal and New Zealand, and a little bit all over the world with online therapy format, with children, adolescents, adults and couples, both public and private settings.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I started my clinical practice in Portugal in 2007 and, throughout my professional career, I have worked in multidisciplinary teams both in public hospitals, community projects and private practice.
I provided individual psychotherapy, therapeutic groups and crisis intervention work. I have had the pleasure of working with all ages in our life cycle, namely children, teenagers, families, couples and adults.
The training and experience gained in an international context, in New Zealand, allowed me to increase the scope of my intervention with English fluent and with different social and cultural contexts, which I consider an asset to my clinical practice.
Nowadays I work all over the world, thanks to the possibility of online intervention, which I find every day to be equally effective as face-to-face intervention.
